Report: Player does not want surgery despite Tottenham’s advice

Journalist Roy Nemer has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur want Giovani Lo Celso to undergo surgery on his hamstring but the midfielder does not want to go under the knife as it would end his World Cup hopes.

Lo Celso, who re-joined Villarreal on loan during the summer, picked up a hamstring injury in the first half of the club’s 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

The injury is a matter of huge concern for Argentina, with the on-loan Tottenham man being a key part of Lionel Scaloni’s set-up over the past few years. The Albicelestes get their World Cup campaign underway with a clash against Saudi Arabia on 22 November.

Roy Neymar has now taken to social media to reveal that Lo Celso has a ‘detachment’ in his muscle. The journalist claims that if the midfielder listens to his parent club’s advice and undergoes surgery, he will not be able to play a part in Qatar.

The 26-year-old is thought to be in favour of a more conservative rehab but it is explained that he is likely to miss the first few games of Argentina’s World Cup campaign anyway.

This is arguably Argentina’s best chance of winning a World Cup for a long time and probably Messi’s last World Cup. So, I can understand why Lo Celso will be desperate to be involved in the tournament even if it means risking aggravating the injury. So, I do not think the midfielder is likely to have surgery if there is a chance of him playing a part in Qatar.
