Report: Player linked with Spurs in January said to now close to PSG move

According to Spanish publication AS, rumoured Tottenham target Ousmane Dembele is now ‘very close’ to completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs were linked with a move for Dembele during the January transfer window (TuttoMercatoWeb) but the winger remained at Nou Camp, even though he is only contracted to Barcelona until the end of this season (Transfermarkt).

ESPN claimed that Spurs only decided against signing the 24-year-old in January as the North London club were told they would need to offer the winger a £250,000-a-week contract (ESPN).

Foot Mercato reported last week that Barcelona were panning on offering the French international a new contract in light of his improved performances over recent weeks.

However, if AS’s latest update is to be believed, the Barca hierarchy are now pessimistic about their chances of retaining Dembele as they believe that the pacy wide-man is on his way to PSG.

The report explains that the Parisians are eyeing him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe and that Barca believe that Dembele has already agreed on a deal with the Ligue 1 giants.

Spurs Web Opinion

I never thought Dembele would be a good fit for Spurs. Even putting aside the winger’s salary demands, I am not sure that the 24-year-old is the kind of forward who can be expected to be put in the work that Conte demands off the ball.
