Report: Player to undergo second medical today ahead of Spurs move

Cristian Romero is undergoing the second phase of his medical in Italy today ahead of travelling to London this evening, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has revealed.

Thomas claimed that Romero should seal his move to Tottenham Hotspur later today following the completion of his medical assessments.

Tottenham have been locked in negotiations with Atalanta over a deal for Romero for a number of weeks and it emerged yesterday that the two clubs had finally struck an agreement.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal will be completed once Atalanta complete the signing of Merih Demiral from Juventus.

The journalist revealed that the fee agreed between the two clubs is thought to be around £47m.

Romero will help bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s options at centre-back after Toby Alderweireld departed Spurs last month.

However, the Italian is unlikely to be the only defender to arrive through the door at Spurs this summer, with Fabio Paratici also allegedly keen on adding another centre-back and a right-back to the Spurs squad.

This is a real signal of intent from Spurs as the club could have easily settled for a cheaper option like Milenkovic. It is a shame that this news has been overshadowed by the Harry Kane fiasco over the past few days.
