Report: Player wants to fight for his place rather than seeking a Spurs transfer

The Guardian have revealed that the sense around the Chelsea training ground is that Conor Gallagher wants to stay and lead the team out as captain for the potential Carabao Cup final next month.

Over the last week, several outlets have played down the chances of Tottenham swooping for Gallagher from their London rivals during this month’s transfer window.

The Daily Mirror claimed on Tuesday that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly could scupper the 23-year-old’s move to Spurs in order to keep the Blues supporters onside.

On Thursday, The Standard said that even if Tottenham were able to strike an agreement with the West London club, the England international could turn down the move.

Gallagher expected to stay at Chelsea for now

The Guardian have now reported something similar, claiming that Gallagher is prepared to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his future at the club.

It is explained that the midfielder is not in a rush to leave and even though Chelsea are listening to offers for him, the player is ‘unlikely to be pressured’ into a move.

The report says that the sense around the training ground is that Gallagher is hopeful of leading his boyhood club out at Wembley in the League Cup final on 26 February, assuming they overcome Middlesbrough in the semis first.

The publication adds that the expectation at Chelsea at the moment is that the midfielder will not leave during the current window.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have already heard that Postecoglou only wants the players who are keen to come to Tottenham. So, if it is true that Gallagher is not completely sold on the move, I suspect the Australian would prefer the club to move for an alternative.
