Report: Player which Spurs were ‘desperate’ to sell is set to stay in North London

Serge Aurier is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur beyond the transfer window closing this evening, according to The Athletic.

The report claims that Tottenham are not expecting to be able to find the Ivorian a new club before the deadline.

Aurier’s future is not said to have any impact on the expected arrival of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.

Aurier had been linked with a move to Real Betis earlier this morning AS, with the La Liga outfit now looking to be closing in on a move for Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin, who is in Seville to undergo a medical (Sky Sports).

Spurs were said to have been keen to have covered some of the costs to offload Aurier to Betis, while Barcelona also snubbed the opportunity to take the former PSG defender as part of the negotiations over Emerson (Fabrizio Romano).

The Sun claimed that Spurs were desperate to see Aurier leave, however, it now appears that he will still be in North London until January at the earliest.

It is hugely frustrating that Spurs look to be lumbered with Aurier until at least January, where his value would have dropped even further considering he would only have around six months left to run on his contract.
