Report: Player who left Spurs in January has surprised people with how poor his fitness levels are

The Daily Mirror have claimed that some around the Everton training camp were surprised by how poor Dele Alli’s fitness levels were when he arrived from Tottenham in January.

Alli’s seven-year spell at Tottenham came to end on the final day of January when Everton swooped to sign the midfielder permanently.

According to reports, the Toffees will pay £10m to Spurs for the former MK Dons man after he makes 20 appearances for them (The Telegraph).

However, the midfielder has not made the sort of impact he would have hoped for at Everton, having not started a single game for the club since his move to Goodison Park.

It has been suggested recently that the Merseysiders could cash in on Alli when the transfer window opens in the summer after his failure to make an impact since his move (TEAMtalk).

The Mirror have now revealed that the main issue with the former Tottenham man has to do with his fitness levels, with some at the club surprised at how low his starting point was, given that he has made 19 appearances for Spurs this season prior to his move.

The report adds that the midfielder is also suffering from a lack of confidence and that Frank Lampard is prepared to wait until next season so that Alli can be put into a better Everton team with more belief.

This report does surprise me as Dele has always been one of the fittest players at Spurs. Naturally, he would be lacking match sharpness given his lack of game time this season but I find it hard to believe that he would be so far behind on his basic fitness level.
