Report: Player who left Spurs last summer demanding £50K-a-week to join PL club

The Times have revealed that former Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier is demanding a salary of £50,000 per week to sign for Nottingham Forest.

Aurier spent four seasons at Tottenham after arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and the right-back departed the club last summer as a free agent after running his contract down.

He signed a 12-month deal with Villarreal after leaving Spurs with the La Liga side having had the option to extend the deal by another two years (AS).

However, the Ivory Coast international is now a free agent after Unai Emery’s side chose not to take up the option to extend his contract.

After their promotion to the top-flight, Forest have made a whopping 16 signings so far this summer and reports over recent days have indicated that they want Aurier to be the 17th player to come through the door (The Daily Mail).

According to The Times’ update, the 29-year-old and his representatives have travelled to Greece to meet with Forest’s owners, with the former Spurs man’s camp said to be demanding wages of £50k a week to sign for Steve Cooper’s side.

£50k a week is certainly not an outlandish demand, particularly considering that Aurier is a free agent. I believe that the 29-year-old would be a very good signing for Forest. Despite the lapses in concentration that he occasionally had during his time at Spurs, Aurier was very capable defensively and decent on the ball.
