Fabrizio Romano has revealed that multiple Saudi Arabian clubs are now in talks with former Tottenham defender Matt Doherty, who is available on a free transfer.
Doherty signed a six-month deal with Atletico Madrid in January after his contract at Tottenham was terminated by mutual consent.
The 31-year-old admitted back in March that while the initial plan was for him to join the La Liga side on loan, the decision was made to terminate his contract once Spurs realised they were at the limit of the number of players they could loan out (The Independent).
The move to the Spanish capital did not go to plan for the right-back, who has made just two appearances for Diego Simeone’s men in his five-month spell at the club.
The Sun reported earlier this month that Doherty had been released by Atletico following the conclusion of his contract and is now on the lookout for a new club.
Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in Matt Doherty
Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that the former Tottenham man could be the latest star to head to Saudi Arabia, with multiple clubs from the Middle Eastern country now said to be in talks with the right-back.

One does feel for Doherty as he was treated quite unfairly by Conte. The right-back did not disappoint whenever he got a run of starts under his belt at Tottenham.
There is no doubt that the 31-year-old still has a couple of years of Premier League football left in him but the lure of one big final payday in Saudi Arabia might be too hard to turn down.
