According to a report in Record (as relayed by Sport Witness), the connection that Marcus Edwards has with Tottenham Hotspur makes the North London club potential favourites to sign the winger from Sporting Lisbon this summer.

Last week, it was reported by Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness) that Spurs have expressed an interest in bringing Edwards back to the club, six years on from his departure from Hotspur Way.
The report claimed that the Sporting Lisbon star is keen to return to England this summer and explained that Tottenham would be able to sign him on a discount as they still have a 35 per cent sell-on clause on their former player.
A few days ago, the same information was backed up by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, who stated that Spurs are keen to ensure they do not fall short of homegrown players and have thus identified Edwards as a potential option to strengthen their attack.

Advantage Tottenham in the race for Marcus Edwards?
Record have now become the latest outlet to talk up the chances of Edwards returning to Tottenham this summer, with the report stating that the Lilywhites are keen to make an offer to re-sign the player.
It is alleged that the ‘special connection’ that the 25-year-old has with the Premier League side might prove crucial in the transfer.
The publication adds that Sporting want a fee between €20m and €30m (£17m-£25.5m) for the winger but it is pointed out that Spurs would have to pay considerably less than other clubs due to their sell-on clause.

This proposed transfer makes sense for a number of reasons. Spurs are missing a winger who can take players on and not only is Edwards homegrown but the sell-on clause would make the deal a relatively inexpensive operation for Ange Postecoglou’s men.
