Report: Playmaker linked with Spurs picks up three assists in one match

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Lovro Majer was on fire for Rennes on Sunday, setting up three goals in their 5-0 win over Saint-Etienne.

Rennes paid around €15m (£12.6m) to snap up Majer this summer but the attacking midfielder did not have the best of starts to his Ligue 1 career as he picked up a hip injury at the start of the season that kept him out for seven matches.

However, the 23-year-old, who has been compared with former Spurs midfielder Luka Modric, has been in excellent form since returning from his injury layoff.

Homme du Match reported two weeks ago that Majer’s form has attracted the attention of several clubs from around the continent, including Tottenham.

The report added that Spurs are ‘the most interested club’ in securing the Croatian international’s services, with the North London club alleged to have the player ‘at the top of their list of priorities’.

On the evidence of Sunday’s performance, it is evident why Tottenham are keen on snapping up Majer as the midfielder set up both goals for Martin Terrier and picked out Gaetan Laborde with a lovely pass for his goal.

Majer would have had four assists in the game had Terrier’s opener not been ruled out for offside.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not sure if another attacking midfielder of Majer’s profile will be on Antonio Conte’s radar, with the Italian unable to fit in the likes of Lo Celso, Ndombele and Dele into the team as things stand. A box-to-box midfielder like Franck Kessie would likely be a bigger priority for Spurs in January.
