Report: Poch to make decision on defender’s future this summer

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has already spoken of the need for a painful rebuild (Evening Standard), which indicates that there will be a lot of player turnover at Tottenham this season.

While the Lilywhites are short in several positions, one position where they are fairly well stocked is at centre back.

Pochettino has four full-time central defenders at his disposal in Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth, while Ben Davies and Eric Dier have also shown their ability to step into the position and do a good job.

However, Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from the club this summer as the Belgian’s contract has a clause that will allow him to leave for £25 million in the summer (The Guardian).

While Spurs have been linked with several replacements, Football.London reports that the Spurs manager might consider promoting Cameron Carter-Vickers to the first team.

The report claims that the USA International, who spent the season on loan at Championship club Swansea City, will be assessed by Pochettino this summer, after which the Argentine will make a final decision over his future.

Spurs Web Opinion

We believe that the likes of Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers will be sold this summer as it is unlikely they would have been sent on multiple loans if Pochettino considered them ready for first-team football.

Carter-Vickers is unlucky that the squad is so strong at centre half, and we think he could be sold to a newly promoted Premier League club in the summer.
