Report: Pochettino backed to make marquee signing at PSG

According to a report in Le Parisien (as relayed by The Daily Mail), Mauricio Pochettino will look to bring Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain when he is set to be named as the club’s new manager.

It appears that is is now only a matter of time before the former Tottenham Hotspur manager is confirmed as the next PSG boss, replacing Thomas Tuchel.

Some Spurs fans on social media have reacted positively to reports of the Argentine potentially taking over at the Parisian club, particularly given that he is likely to have much more investment than he had during his time in North London.

Pochettino has already been backed to offer Dele Alli an escape from his Tottenham nightmare and take the midfielder to PSG next month (The Sun).

Le Parisien now claim that the Ligue 1 giants will also look to bring Messi to Parc des Princes and reunite the Argentine great with his friend and former teammate Neymar.

Messi is understood to be weighing up his future options and the report suggests that the Parisians are confident of securing the Barcelona legend’s services.

A strike force of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe is a dream for any manager and will be difficult for any defence to stop. However, if PSG do spend big on Messi, his signing would also bring with it an expectation of winning the Champions League. Pochettino will thus be under a lot more pressure to deliver than he was during his time at Spurs.
