Report: Pochettino calls transfer target to explain why he is yet to sign him

According to a report in Spanish media outlet El Confidencial, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino personally contacted Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to reassure him of his interest after the club’s initial bid of €40 million (£35 million) was rejected by the Spanish club.

The report claims that Betis expect to receive closer to €80 million (£70million) for Lo Celso’s services and that Pochettino has told the Argentine that Spurs do not have much money to go to market but things will be different if Christian Eriksen leaves the club.

The Dane recently announced his intention to seek a new challenge away from North London and welcomed interest from Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet).

However, recent reports indicate that the Spanish giants prefer Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba to the Spurs man, and so it is unclear if the 27-year-old will move summer (Marca).

If this report from El Confidencial is to be believed then it appears that Tottenham’s interest in Lo Celso hinges all on the future of Christian Eriksen.

Spurs Web Opinion

While there is no way of knowing how much truth there is behind this report, we at Spurs Web believe Le Celso would be an excellent addition to the squad and is exactly what Spurs are crying out for in midfield. We believe the club should pursue a deal for him irrespective of whether Eriksen stays or leaves.
