Report: Pochettino calls up 16-year-old to train with the first team

Football London’s Alasdair Gold has reported that, contrary to the rumours of an apparent fall out between Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy, the coaching staff actually enjoyed an uneventful and relaxed week at Hotspur Way during the international break.

The report claims that Pochettino used the week to work with the likes of Erik Lamela, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, and Eric Dier who weren’t involved in international duty.

Several youngsters were reportedly called in to train alongside the remaining first-team members, with 16-year-old Yaya Santiago getting his first taste of first-team life.

The talented midfielder joined the club’s academy from Celta Vigo in the summer after netting an impressive 15 goals for Celta’s Under-16s last campaign.

He has made a few appearances for the development squad this season and being called up to train with the first-team is certainly an indication that Pochettino and his coaching staff are impressed with what they have seen.

While it would have been nice to go into the international break with a win over Sheffield United, the two-week break would have hopefully given Pochettino the time he needed to take a step back and reassess the problems. Despite the poor result against the Blades, the lineup Pochettino named for the game was certainly a positive sign and showed that he is ready to go with the players he trusts.
