Report: Mauricio Pochettino demands Chelsea hijack Tottenham’s move for striker

TEAMtalk have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino has demanded that Chelsea hijack Tottenham’s move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Gimenez has taken the Eredivisie by storm since his switch to Rotterdam 18 months ago and the centre-forward also showcased his quality in the Champions League this season.

Several outlets have backed Tottenham to make a move for the prolific striker in January, with The Mirror even claiming a couple of weeks ago that the Lilywhites are convinced that the 22-year-old is the man to fill Harry Kane’s shoes after scouting him extensively.

The outlet suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s men are ready to meet Feyenoord’s asking price for the Mexican when the transfer window opens in January.

Chelsea enter race with Spurs for Santiago Gimenez

However, if TEAMtalk’s latest update is to be believed, Chelsea are now ready to battle their London rivals for Gimenez’s signature.

The outlet states that Mauricio Pochettino has now made signing a number nine his top priority in January and has now set his sights on the Feyenoord star.

The publication adds that the reigning Eredivisie champions would be willing to sell their star man for €40m (£34.8m) along with some add-ons.

The report asserts that three more London sides, Arsenal, West Ham and Fulham, are also monitoring Gimenez ahead of January.

Spurs Web Opinion

Feyenoord will be hoping that a bidding war ensues for Gimenez as interest from the Premier League continues to build.

While Tottenham might not be planning on signing a number nine in January, they might be forced to move for the Mexican if they feel they would miss out on him if they wait until the summer.
