Report: Pochettino in talks with European club who are ready to axe current boss

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly in talks with Benfica over a possible move to the Primeira Liga Liga outfit.

The front page of today’s Portuguese newspaper Record features the claim in which it is said that the current champions are ready to spend big to persuade the Argentine to make the switch.

Pochettino has been out of work since he was dismissed from his role in late November at Spurs after five and a half years in charge following a disappointing start to the current campaign which saw the North Londoners drop to fourteenth in the Premier League whilst also suffering humiliating cup defeats at the hands of Colchester United and Bayern Munich.

Benfica are said to be ready to part company with current boss Bruno Lage despite the fact his side are only three points behind Porto in the table.

Pochettino has also been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United should the prospective takeover of the Magpies by completed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (ESPN).
