Report: Pochettino left frustrated with Levy over transfer window dealings

According to a report by The Daily Mail, Mauricio Pochettino was left frustrated with Daniel Levy after the Tottenham chairman blocked Dele Alli’s proposed loan move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Alli was heavily linked with a loan move to PSG all month but it was reported on transfer deadline day that Tottenham had rejected three different loan offers from the Ligue 1 giants.

It was claimed that Jose Mourinho was more than happy to let the midfielder complete the move but Levy was determined to hold on to him.

The Mail has now claimed that Mourinho, Alli and Pochettino all wanted the move to go through, with the former Tottenham manager wanting to rescue the midfielder from a miserable season in North London.

However, the report suggested that Tottenham wanted to bring in a replacement for the 24-year-old before letting him leave and explored a shock return for Christian Eriksen.

When the finances involved in re-signing the Dane proved to be too costly, the Tottenham chairman decided to dig in his heels over Alli, which left Pochettino frustrated with his former boss.

Levy always acts based on what he perceives as being in the best interest of the club. However, if Mourinho sees Alli as being surplus to requirements, it would have made sense to loan him out as the midfielder’s value is only going to drop if he continues to warm the bench at Spurs. Perhaps, Levy’s unwillingness to let Alli leave is a case of the Spurs chairman having a contingency plan if things go downhill for Mourinho at Spurs.
