Report: Pochettino phones star he used to manage to convince him to join Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has reportedly phoned Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho in order to persuade him to join the North London club.

Pochettino managed the ex-Liverpool star for a brief period when they were both at Espanyol in Spain for six months. Coutinho scored five goals in 16 games during this time under Poch (SkySports).

Sky Sports News say that Spurs are now the favourites to seal a last-minute deal for the Brazilian playmaker before deadline day.

Coutinho is said to be surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou, but Tottenham have until just Thursday at 5 pm to get a deal done.

The price tag for Coutinho is said to be around £80m, far below what Barca paid for him back in January 2018, which was £142m (Guardian).

Daniel Levy is also said to already be in Miami (Football London), where Coutinho and Barcelone have just landed for part of their pre-season.

Could this actually be happening?
