Report: Pochettino regular not in Antonio Conte’s long-term plans at Tottenham

The Daily Star have claimed that Southampton and Crystal Palace hold an interest in Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks.

Winks did have a bit of resurgence after Antonio Conte took over at Spurs after struggling for game time during Nuno Espirito Santo’s brief spell in charge.

However, the England international has fallen down Conte’s pecking order over the last couple of months.

Despite the injury to Oliver Skipp, the 26-year-old has not got many minutes under his belt, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg forming a solid partnership with January signing Rodrigo Bentancur in the middle of the park.

The Daily Star suggests that Conte wants to shuffle his squad in the summer and that Winks is not in the Italian’s long-term plans.

It is reported that Tottenham would be willing to entertain any sensible offers for the midfielder this summer.

The report reveals that Southampton have a long-standing interest in the Spurs star and are weighing up an offer ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

It is explained that Palace have identified Winks as an alternative to on-loan Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, with the Eagles’ chances of signing the 22-year-old on a permanent basis now looking slim.

Spurs Web Opinion

Southampton would be a good fit for Winks and I would not be surprised if he thrived at the South Coast if the move does go through. I believe he is an extremely capable player in the right system.

However, that does not mean that it would be a mistake for Spurs to let him go. The 26-year-old needs a new challenge and I think the time has come for the club to part ways with him.
