Report: Pochettino sends player on early holiday as he plays no part in CL Final preparations

Vincent Janssen’s return to the Tottenham Hotspur first team looks unlikely to become a regular occurrence next season.

Despite an off-the-bench return to action this season against Brighton, during which Spurs fans somewhat ironically chanted his name throughout the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Football London have reported that Janssen has already left for his summer holidays. This is despite numerous members of Spurs’ U23-Squad taking part in first-team training sessions leading up to Saturday’s final.

Janssen’s time at Spurs has been far from ideal and he has certainly failed to meet the expectations that his £17 million price tag demanded (BBC).

Janssen earned himself a more prominent role at the club following the injury of Harry Kane early on in the 2016/17 campaign. However, he managed to net just 2 Premier League goals in 24 appearances and quickly fell out of favour with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Some may say that Janssen was harshly judged on his brief first team spell at Spurs. However, the news that he now misses out on any involvement in Spurs’ Champions League final clash with Liverpool all but confirms his departure from the club this summer.

Janssen joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar in the Summer of 2016 and it is fair to say that, following a 27 goal Eredivisie campaign in 2015, hopes were high for the Dutch forward.

Clearly, Janssen never reproduced this clinical form in North London and Pochettino will be hoping he can move Janssen on quickly this summer to make room for some much-needed attacking reinforcements.
