Report: Pochettino snubbed chance to sign Barcelona player

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said about a week ago that Spurs were looking to bring players in before the end of the end of the month.

However, he changed his tune during the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Watford suggesting that he was now less optimistic about the prospect of getting players in.

The Tottenham manager previously talked about how Spurs won’t be signing players just for the sake of it and would instead look for ones that would fit well into the team.

Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp recently said that he had heard that the club was offering players to the Argentine but it was him who was turning them down (talkSPORT).

Now it has emerged that Pochettino has turned down the option to sign Brazilian winger Malcom on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season.

A report in The Sun claims that Daniel Levy had sanctioned the deal but the Argentine said that the Barca man didn’t fit into his plans for the rest of the season, despite injuries to Harry Kand and Dele Alli.

Tottenham were rumoured to be interested in signing Malcom from Bordeaux last summer (Times) but the winger ended up moving to the Catalan giants instead, where he has found game time hard to come by.
