Report: Pochettino spotted back in London amidst England speculation

The Telegraph have revealed that former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was at Wembley to watch England’s Nations League clash against Germany, amidst the growing speculation regarding Gareth Southgate’s future.

England played out a 3-3 draw with Germany on Monday, in what was the Three Lions’ last fixture ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Pochettino, who has been out of work since parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, was allegedly spotted at Wembley along with his assistant Jesus Perez.

The Telegraph add that Argentine was not invited to Wembley by the Football Association and he did not attend with the intention of making a play for Southgate’s job.

The report explains that the former Spurs boss has been splitting his time between England and Barcelona since leaving PSG while he continues to contemplate his next move.

It is also asserted that, as things stand, the FA have no plans to sack Southgate, although it is said that there is a growing feeling that the 52-year-old will step away from the job after the World Cup, irrespective of how well the team does in the tournament.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would love to see Pochettino taking charge of England after the World Cup, not only because he would be a great appointment for the Three Lions but also because that would keep him away from taking over at another Premier League club.

However, I am not convinced that the former Tottenham boss would be overly keen on an international job. I suspect that he would want to continue at club football at this stage of his career.
