Report: Pochettino ‘was doing everything’ to seal Spurs return

According to a report in La Repubblica, Mauricio Pochettino was pushing hard for a Tottenham return until Tuesday.

Reports indicated that Spurs were keen on bringing Pochettino back to the club but Paris Saint-Germain were continuing to dig their heels in.

Eventually, Tottenham decided to move on to other targets, with Antonio Conte now seemingly the front-runner for the role.

Some sources indicated that while Pochettino wanted to return to Spurs, it was the former Tottenham boss’ unwillingness to go public about his desire to leave PSG that prevented the move from going through.

However, La Repubblica now reveal that the 49-year-old certainly tried his best to return to the North London club.

The report explains that the PSG dressing room is split due to a lot of internal wars and the Argentine is no longer happy to be there.

It is asserted that Pochetitno would be willing to stay only if sporting director Leonardo leaves the Ligue 1 giants this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

We should not entirely rule out the possibility that our pursuit of Conte is partially intended to force Pochettino to go public about his desire to leave Paris. Multiple sources have revealed that Pochettino’s relationship with Leonardo has hit rock bottom and so I do not see how the former Spurs boss will stay if the Brazilian does not leave.
