Report: Portsmouth hopeful of signing Spurs youngster for just £300,000

According to Portsmouth News, Tottenham academy striker Kion Etete has attracted interest from Portsmouth this summer.

Etete spent the first half of last season on loan at Northampton Town in League Two where he managed to net six goals in 22 appearances (TransferMarkt).

Etete’s impressive displays caught the eye of Cheltenham Town in League One where the 20-year-old spent the second half of the campaign

Three goals and three assists for the striker in 13 games for the Robins only helped raise the player’s stock even further (TransferMarkt).

However, with Etete now due to enter the final year of his contract at Spurs, the Lilywhites may be forced to sell up now or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer (TransferMarkt).

Pompey are said to be ready to swoop for the powerful forward, with manager Dan Cowley seeing Etete as a priority signing this window as he looks to improve on last season’s tenth-placed finish in League One (Portsmouth News).

The south-coast side are reportedly confident that they will be able to land the Derby-born player for as little as £300,000 (Portsmouth News). However, whether Spurs will sanction this sale remains to be seen.

Spurs Web Opinion

There won’t be many Spurs fans who are keen to let Etete leave for a fee as low as is being quoted. The youngster is clearly talented and has room to grow and adapt his game whilst at the club.

Spurs should hold out for a better price or simply retain the player until January to allow him to generate more interest from other clubs.
