Report: Portuguese manager ‘understood to have’ admirers at Spurs; not Fonseca

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to hold Porto boss Sergio Conceicao in high regard amid speculation over the future of Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Daily Mail claim that Conceicao’s work at the Portuguese giants has led to him gaining admirers within the North London club.

It is said that Tottenham had not held internal discussions over the future of Nuno prior to yesterday’s 3-0 defeat against Manchester United, however, the Spurs hierarchy have been alarmed by the mood of home support at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the fixture.

Large sections of the home supporters turned on the manager after he decided to take off Lucas Moura in the 54th minute, while there were boos ringing out at half time and full time.

Since becoming Porto manager in 2017, Conceicao has helped the club to win two Portuguese league titles, two Super Cups, and a Portuguese Cup victory (transfermarkt).

Porto currently top the Portuguese top flight on goal difference from Sporting, following the first ten games of the campaign.

Who Tottenham may decide to appoint next should Nuno be shown the door is a pivotal decision for the club given the relative failure of the Mourinho and Nuno tenures in North London.
