Report: Positive update on Spurs’ pursuit of PSG right-back Thomas Meunier

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender, Thomas Meunier, this summer, according to the latest reports from France.

90 Min reported last week that Spurs could move for the Belgian international whose contract with PSG looks set to run out in the summer.

L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN) now report that the Ligue 1 champions have no intention of handing the experienced right-back a new contract as Thomas Tuchel is not a fan of the defender.

The report claims that there have been no negotiations between PSG and the Meunier on a new deal and several clubs across Europe are looking to take advantage of the situation.

However, it is asserted that Tottenham are in pole position to land the full-back this summer as they are proving “very insistent” with Meunier’s entourage. The Lilywhites are said to have intensified negotiations for the PSG star in the last few days.

Free transfers are likely to prove very lucrative for clubs this summer given the financial uncertainty they are dealing with. Being able to bring in a player of Meunier’s quality for free is too good an opportunity to turn down. He is exactly the type of reliable option Mourinho will be looking for to compete with Aurier.
