Report: Postecoglou and Spurs have big plans for 18-year-old next season

Football Insider have claimed the belief at Tottenham Hotspur is that Lucas Bergvall is ready to be a first-team regular for the club next season.

Bergvall has had a substantial rise over the last six months, with the teenager going from making his senior Djurgarden debut to winning a call-up to the Swedish national side in the space of half a season.

While the youngster has dealt impressively with the challenges that have been put in front of him so far, the next one will perhaps be his biggest one yet as he will link up the Spurs squad ahead of next season and fight for a place in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Tottenham expect Lucas Bergvall to play a key role

According to Football Insider, Spurs’ plan is to use the 18-year-old as a first-team regular next season, with those working at the club of the belief that he is ready for such a role.

The report alleges that Bergvall is viewed as a ‘generational talent’ at Hotspur Way, with many of the opinion that he is capable of slotting straight in and challenging for a starting spot despite his inexperience.

Finally, the publication adds that the Tottenham hierarchy see the midfielder as ‘a massive coup’ for the club after they beat several of Europe’s heavyweights for the player’s signature last month.

Bergvall might take a few months to get adjusted to Tottenham’s system and the pace of the game at this level but we know that Postecoglou is not shy of throwing young players into the deep end if he feels that they are good enough.
