Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have decided to loan out Ashley Phillips, with the centre-back not seen as a first-team option quite yet.

Ashley Phillips signed for Spurs in 2023

Phillips, who arrived at Spurs from Blackburn Rovers last summer, is still waiting for his senior debut for the Lilywhites.

The centre-back spent last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle and produced some eye-catching displays in the right side of a back three for the Championship club.

Even though Ange Postecoglou was without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin for much of pre-season, Phillips did not feature much in the friendlies.

Phillips is not quite ready to start for Spurs

Football Insider have now asserted that Postecoglou does not see the 19-year-old as being ready to play for his side yet.

Rather than letting him play for the Under-21s, Tottenham have allegedly decided to loan him out again so that the youngster can continue developing into the finished product.

The publication adds that Getafe are one of several clubs to have expressed an interest in a temporary deal for Phillps.

While Tottenham might be tempted to allow Phillips to test himself at La Liga, they would also be wary of the defender potentially warming the bench at Getafe for much of the season.

A return to the Championship thus seems the most likely outcome for the teenager this season.
