Report: Postecoglou green lights Spurs move for Spanish winger

A new name has emerged on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar it seems, with scouts sent to watch Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea recently, and Ange Postecoglou has given any move the ‘green light’ if the club can make it happen.

Tottenham have already moved quickly to secure two new signings in the January transfer window, with Timo Werner adding fresh legs in attack, and Radu Dragusin providing strength in depth at centre-half.

It seems Ange Postecoglou‘s overhaul of the Spurs squad is far from complete, however, with The Independent claiming the North London club are keen to add a new central midfielder to their roster this month.

Beyond that, there is still work to be done, with fringe players such as Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon thought to be facing the exit imminently (Football Insider).

Spurs are watching Ander Barrenetxea

According to the latest rumours from The Sun Tottenham may be looking to swap one Spanish winger for another, with the club reportedly monitoring Real Sociedad wide-man, Ander Barrenetxea.

It is thought Spurs have sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old for the recent game against Athletic Bilbao, and believe Barrenetxea possesses the attributes to fit Postecoglou’s system perfectly.

However, the Lilywhites can expect to face competition from fierce rivals Arsenal for the Spanish winger, though it is not known whether the player himself would even be looking for a switch at this time. Either way, a summer move is far more likely than a January one.

Barrenetxea has four goals and two assists in 22 matches this season (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

There is almost no chance of us adding another attacking player this month, so this one would have to wait until the summer. The priority is, and should be, in finding a new central midfielder in the January transfer market.
