Report: Postecoglou identifies four positions for Spurs to strengthen this summer

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur want four quality additions this summer – one each in defence and midfield and two in their forward line.

The report says that one of the issues flagged is Tottenham’s struggles to adequately replace any of their first-choice defenders this season, with the club wanting to add some quality backups.

As a result, they will prioritise signing a top-quality deputy to Pedro Porro, particularly since they will also have European football to contend with next season.

Tottenham want a new midfield option this summer

The outlet says that Tottenham are also on the lookout for a top-of-the-line number six, with neither Yves Bissouma nor Rodrigo Bentancur managing to show enough consistency over the last few months.

Spurs are expected to be in the market for a centre-forward but it is explained that they will first have to make a decision on the future of Richarlison, who is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.

Finally, the publication adds that Postecoglou also has the appetite to add another winger to their squad, with the club set to decide on whether to sign Timo Werner or pursue an alternative.

If Tottenham are prioritising a backup for Pedro Porro, that would suggest that they plan on getting rid of Emerson Royal and keeping hold of Ben Davies. Out of all the positions named, I think number six is the most crucial as we ideally need a top-class alternative to Bissouma.
