Report: Postecoglou left furious by what staff member suggested ahead of Man City match

Tottenham Hotspur head coach certainly did not hold back with his feelings following the defeat against Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

Spurs went into the fixture with a chance of featuring in next season’s Champions League still a possibility if they beat City and Sheffield United while relying on Aston Villa to slip up in their final game of the campaign.

While a Tottenham victory would have boosted their Champions League hopes, it would have also all but gifted North London rivals Arsenal the Premier League title.

With City beating Spurs 2-0 under the lights of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in an eerily quiet atmosphere, many home fans were content with losing the fixture considering the circumstances.

The Athletic have revealed that Postecoglou had been particularly annoyed in the build-up to the match by some of the club staff who are Tottenham fans and had been relaxed over the prospect of a defeat.

Postecoglou was left furious by comment made by Spurs staff member

The topic of losing the fixture had been the subject of jokes among a small section of staff and Postecoglou was left furious when one individual on the support staff joked that he should field the youth team against Pep Guardiola’s title chasers.

Postecoglou’s mood had been lowering over recent weeks as a result of the poor on-field form of his team and had been left shocked by the suggestion of purposely losing a match.

Tottenham bring the curtain down on their 24/25 Premier League campaign at Sheffield United on Sunday where they can clinch Europa League qualification.

Regardless, Ange has certainly underestimated the rivalry between the two clubs and may not have spoken as openly as he did in his press conference if he was still in charge of Celtic.
