Calciomercato have revealed that Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of Tottenham-bound Luka Vuskovic and tried to sign the Croat when he was at Celtic.

Tottenham are seemingly on the verge of winning the race for one of the most highly-rated young central defenders in Europe, with reports indicating that the North London club are now working on the final details of a deal to sign Vuskovic (Fabrizio Romano).

According to reports, Spurs are expected to agree on a deal worth £12m, with the defender set to continue playing in the Croatian top flight until he turns 18 before moving to Hotspur Way in the summer of 2025 (Evening Standard).

The 16-year-old, who broke into Hajduk Split’s first-team back in February, was reportedly on the radar of a number of Premier League sides, with the Daily Mail claiming back in April that Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle were all eyeing the centre-back.

CalicoMercato claim that apart from the aforementioned sides, Tottenham also saw off competition from Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan to land Vuskovic.

The publication explained that the Milan hierarchy are big fans of the teenager and spoke to his entourage earlier in the summer but were put off by the cost of operation.

The report adds that Postecoglou had also been courting Vuskovic for a long time, having previously tried to take him to Parkhead.

Like the Johnson and Maddison deals, it appears as if Tottenham’s interest in Vuskovic was also primarily driven by Postecoglou. That is further evidence that the Australian is looking at the Spurs job as a long-term project.
