Report: Postecoglou wants Spurs to copy one piece of Chelsea recruitment

Football Insider have claimed that Ange Postecoglou wants Tottenham to sign a forward of a similar profile to Villarreal star Nicolas Jackson, who is now on the verge of heading to Chelsea.

The report states that Postecoglou does not wish to sign a number nine this summer but wants Spurs to add a wide forward to their squad after the departures of Lucas Moura and Arnaut Danjuma.

It is explained that the Australian was keen on Jackson, who netted 13 goals and provided four assists for Villarreal across all competitions in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).

However, with the 22-year-old now set to complete a switch to Stamford Bridge, the Tottenham head coach has allegedly asked the North London club’s recruitment team to sign a player with a similar profile.

This report comes on the back of an update from Alasdair Gold, who said on Football.London (July 18) that Postecoglou wants to add a young winger to the squad this summer.

The journalist added that the 57-year-old is also ready to closely assess Bryan Gil during pre-season as the Spaniard ticks several boxes for his style of play.

Gil showed plenty of promise when he got a few starts under his belt in January and there is no reason why the Spaniard cannot be Kulusevski’s main backup on the right.

If Postecoglou views Richarlison as a cover for Kane in the number nine role, he might want a natural left-sided forward/winger, with Harvey Barnes fitting the bill perfectly.
