Report: Postecoglou wants to ‘take a look at’ 23-year-old before deciding his future

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Ange Postecoglou will continue to assess Ryan Sessegnon over the next couple of weeks before making a decision on his future.

Sessegnon made his long-awaited return in Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round win over Burnley on Friday, with the 23-year-old making his first appearance for the club in nearly a year.

The wide man had picked up a hamstring injury right at the start of pre-season season and thus has not had the opportunity to show Postecoglou what he can do.

Postecoglou wants to monitor Ryan Sessegnon

Gold has now revealed that the Spurs head coach wants to ‘take a good look’ at Sessegnon over the coming weeks before coming to a decision on whether he should stay at the club.

The journalist says that the plan last summer was to send the former Fulham man on loan but that was scuppered due to his injury.

However, he points out that with Ben Davies now sidelined, Sessegnon could prove a valuable squad option for Postecoglou over the coming months.

Gold adds that fellow left-back, Sergio Reguilon, who has returned from his loan spell at Manchester United, is expected to leave Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Sessegnon has the pace, directness and energy to play in Postecoglou’s system, he lacks the quality on the ball to play as an inverted left-back.  So, unless Ange views the 23-year-old as an emergency cover for the left-wing role, I expect Tottenham to loan out the player.
