In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham Hotspur, Globo Esporte have revealed that Emerson Royal is expected to feature for Brazil against Uruguay late tonight.

There was initially some concern that Tottenham’s South American contingent, Emerson, Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez, would be unavailable for the clash against Newcastle on Sunday due to quarantine requirements on their return to the UK.

However, it has since emerged that Spurs are confident all four players will be eligible to make the trip to St James’ Park.

Emerson did not start either of Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela or Paraguay during this international break.

However, Globo Esporte have revealed that the 22-year-old featured in a ‘test starting eleven’ during training. The Tottenham man is expected to be named in the teamsheet against the Uruguayans tonight, with the game kicking off in the early AM British time.

That might come as a blow to Nuno Espirito Santo, who might have been hoping to have the right-back return to the club fresh on the back of an impressive display against Aston Villa ahead of the international break.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Emerson is available for the trip to St James’ Park, I would not be surprised if Nuno opted to start with Tanganga if the Brazilian plays 90 minutes this evening. I would also be surprised if Lo Celso is named in the starting lineup against Newcastle.

  1. Dont think he will be a big miss as none of the South Americans who are away have been regulars and certainly not made any startling performances for the team be better getting quality in team than keep giving them opportunities that applies to lo celso and sanchez
