Report: Potential blow for Spurs and Man United as winger pens new contract with club

BILD have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a move to sign Mathys Tel, with the winger agreeing to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.

The report says that the development comes as bad news for both Tottenham and Manchester United, who were both ‘specifically interested’ in signing the 18-year-old in the summer.

It is explained that Tel had initially made it clear that he was thinking about a move away from the Allianz Arena at the end of the season as he was not happy with the lack of game time under Thomas Tuchel.

This allegedly alerted both the Spurs and the Red Devils, who were both keen on making a move for the attacker when the transfer window opened in June.

Mathys Tel signs new Bayern Munich contract

However, the news that Tuchel is departing at the end of the season has led to a ‘big turnaround’ on the matter, with the player’s entourage opening talks with the Bayern hierarchy over a new deal.

With Tel now having committed his future to the Bundesliga giants, Tottenham’s and Man Utd’s hopes of signing the France Under-21 international are now said to be over.

A number of clubs around Europe, including Spurs, might have been eyeing up moves for the likes of Tel, Joshua Kimmich and others ahead of the summer.

However, with the news that Tuchel is now leaving at the end of the season, it would appear that many of Bayern’s fringe players would now reconsider their future and might be more open to staying put.
