James Garner has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham

Over the last two seasons, the 23-year-old has developed impressively at Goodison Park, having established himself as a key member of Sean Dyche’s set-up.

Football Insider say that the versatile Garner has emerged as a target for both Tottenham and Newcastle ahead of the summer window, with both clubs keeping tabs on the player’s situation.

James Garner in talks with Everton over a new contract

However, it is explained that the Merseysiders are keen to ensure that the midfielder remains at the Premier League club and have already opened talks with him over a new contract.

The Toffees are thought to be keen to reward the England Under-21 international with an improved deal for his progress, with Dyche viewing the United academy graduate as one of the most important players in his squad.

The Birkenhead-born product made 44 appearances for Everton in all competitions last season, scoring two goals and delivering the same amount of assists.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Everton’s current financial predicament, one would have thought that all players in their squad have a price.

Toffees would likely demand a huge fee for Garner, which I cannot see Tottenham being too keen to pay.

Garner is far more likely to get regular playing time at Everton compared to as if he were to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and would not be the calibre of player the club need to improve the starting eleven.
