Report: Potential boost for Spurs and Chelsea as Barcelona drop out of January race

In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Youssoufa Moukoko, Sport have now revealed that Barcelona are not prepared to sign the Borussia Dortmund starlet in January.

Moukoko is making waves in the Bundesliga, having found the back of the net six times and registered another four assists in 14 league appearances so far this season (Transfermarkt).

90 min reported last month that the North London club had sent scouts to Germany to run the rule over the 18-year-old this season.

The report added that the Lilywhites could face quite a bit of competition for the forward’s signature, which is not unsurprising given that his current contract at Dortmund runs out at the end of the season.

However, if Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs have one less club to worry about in the race for Moukoko as Barcelona have decided not to make a move for the forward in January. The report alleges that the Catalan giants will only sign the teenager on a free transfer next summer.

It is explained that for that to happen, the player would have to turn down approaches from Premier League clubs in January, which Xavi Hernandez’s men think is a possibility since the Dortmund starlet wants to play at the Camp Nou.

Sport add that Moukoko is unlikely to sign a new deal at Westfalenstadion since the contract offered by Dortmund falls well short of the salary he is demanding.

The report states that Chelsea are now the frontrunners to sign the forward, with the Blues said to be ready to offer him a lucrative contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

Moukoko is a top talent and it is not surprising that so many big clubs are after him. I do not think there is any chance of Spurs winning the race for the 18-year-old as the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United need a centre-forward much more desperately than we do.
