Report: Potential January destination emerges for Toby Alderweireld

According to a report by Calcio Mercato, AC Milan are plotting a January move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderdweireld.

The 30-year-old, along with Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen are out of contract at the end of the season and will be free to begin negotiations with clubs on the continent over a pre-contract agreement in January.

Recent reports have indicated that Alderweireld has expressed his intention to extend his stay in North London to new Spurs boss Jose Mourinho (Football.London).

The centre half has started every single game since the Portuguese manager arrived at the club.

However, the report in Calcio Mercato claims that Tottenham might still consider selling the Belgian international in January if he doesn’t pen a new deal.

AC Milan are said to be in the market for a central defender with Alderweireld said to be near the top of their wish list.

The Italian giants feel they can land the Spurs defender for a cut-price deal in January.

Unless Alderweireld had told Mourinho that he is prepared to commit his future to the club, there is no way he would have started every game. Eriksen has hardly featured since Mourinho came in and that is certainly an indication that the former Man Utd and Chelsea boss doesn’t want to play the players who want to leave.
