Report: Potential new signing wants to be at the Spurs vs Shakhtar game tomorrow

Micky van de Ven is inching closer and closer to becoming a Tottenham Hotspur player, and a new report on the situation reveals the 22-year-old is hoping to attend the Spurs vs Shakhtar Donetsk friendly tomorrow.

Spurs have been looking for defensive reinforcements all summer and have long been linked with Wolfsburg centre-half Micky van de Ven.

Thanks to data analysis carried out by the club, the young Dutchman, along with Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, has been identified as a perfect fit for Spurs’ style of play (Football.London).

In the last few days, progress has been made on landing van de Ven. A deal worth a reported €50m (£43.1m) plus add-ons is now ‘on the verge’ of being completed (The Athletic). The transfer even has the ‘Here we go’ treatment from Fabrizio Romano.

According to a report from De Telegraaf, the young defender is due to fly to London on Sunday, with a view to completing his medical at Hotspur Way and being unveiled as a Tottenham player on Monday.

Now, the latest on the situation comes from Charlie Eccelshare in a report for The Athletic, and it seems Micky van de Ven cannot wait to step foot in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as he plans to watch the Lilywhites’ upcoming game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Eccleshare tweeted: “Micky van de Ven hoping to be at Tottenham’s friendly tomorrow against Shakhtar. He’s flying to London tomorrow and likely to be at the game as things stand. Medical planned for Monday.”

It will be great to see van de Ven in the stands tomorrow, if he can be there. It is such a boost to have a top-class defender coming in to join the squad, and he could well be the answer to all our problems at the back.
