Report: Potential Spurs boost as Chelsea no longer in the running for attacker

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Chelsea are not expected to make a move for rumoured Tottenham target Marcus Thuram.

Thuram is expected to be one of the hottest properties in European football this summer, with the forward, who has found the back of the net 14 times so far this season, about to be a free agent when his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach runs out in June (Transfermarkt).

Over the last couple of months, a whole host of clubs around Europe, including Spurs, have been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old (90 min).

CalcioMercato reported just a few days ago that Tottenham and Manchester United have both reached out to the France international’s representatives regarding a summer transfer.

In what comes as a potential boost to Spurs’ chances of snapping up Thuram, Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that neither Bayern Munich nor Chelsea are expected to make a move for the Gladbach star.

Signing a player of Thuram’s quality on a free transfer would be an extremely lucrative option for plenty of top clubs around Europe.

However, Tottenham have quite a few similar attacking options to the Frenchman, which is why I am surprised that we are being mentioned as being among the top contenders for the 25-year-old’s signature.

The likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan arguably need a forward of Thuram’s profile much more urgently than we do.
