The Times have revealed that Tottenham’s pursuit of Brennan Johnson looks set to drag on until deadline day.

It has been well-documented over recent days that Tottenham are keen on adding a wide forward to their squad before the transfer deadline.

Sky Sports and Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday afternoon that the North London club were lining up deals for Johnson as well as Ansu Fati before making a final decision on who to sign.

Spurs’ Fati pursuit now appears to be over, with the 20-year-old expected to join Brighton on a season-long loan deal (Daily Mail).

So, one would presume that Tottenham would now push ahead with a move for the Forest star, but The Independent suggested last evening that the Lilywhites were still a long way off from agreeing on a deal for the Wales international.

Could go down to the wire for Brennan Johnson deal

The Times have now asserted that Spurs’ negotiations with Forest over the versatile attacker ‘will go down to the wire’.

This is because Forest are continuing to demand £50m for Johnson, which Tottenham are not willing to pay. Instead, it is alleged that Daniel Levy and co have offered some players, including Davinson Sanchez, as part of the deal

It seemed like Fati was the backup option Tottenham had lined up for Johnson. Now that the Barca star is heading to Brighton, Forest are in an even stronger negotiating position over the 22-year-old, which is why I do not see them relaxing their £50m valuation.
