Report predicts Sergio Reguilon’s stance on potential Real Madrid return

90 min have claimed that Real Madrid would find it difficult to convince Sergio Reguilon to rejoin the club in the summer.

Reguilon moved from Madrid to North London in a deal worth around £28m in 2020, with Los Blancos inserting a buy-back clause in the deal that could be activated until the summer of 2022 (Football.London).

The Spaniard has been a regular in the starting eleven at Spurs under all three managers he has had at the club so far.

Over the last couple of months, the 25-year-old has shown signs of getting accustomed to the demands of the left wing-back role in Antonio Conte’s system.

The Sunday Mirror (13/2; page 73) claimed that Real Madrid have identified Reguilon as the man to replace Marcelo in the summer and were ready to activate the £33.6m buy-back clause to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

This has now been backed up by 90 min, who claim that Carlo Ancelotti has asked Los Blancos hierarchy to snap up the Spain international.

However, it is explained that Madrid might find it difficult to convince Reguilon to return to the Spanish capital, having let him leave twice in the past – initially loaning him out to Sevilla before selling him to Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was Zidane who seemed to have reservations with Reguilon and so the Spaniard might welcome the prospect of playing under Ancelotti at Madrid. Given that Madrid are his boyhood club, the prospect of a return would certainly be tempting for the 25-year-old.

However, he might want assurances that he is the first choice left-back, which he might not get, with Ancelotti seeming to rate Ferland Mendy highly. I would not be too disappointed if Reguilon decided he wanted to return to Madrid as Spurs should be able to secure a decent replacement for £35m.
