Report: Premier League announce changes to VAR system amidst controversy

Despite the system only being around for the past year, Tottenham already have a strong history with VAR, for better and for worse.

Few could forget the trials and tribulations during the Man City match in the Champions League last season. First, Fernando Llorente’s hip/hand goal survived a VAR check, before Sterling’s last-minute winner was denied, sending Spurs through to the semi-finals.

Even this season in the Premier League, Spurs were helped by VAR against Man City again, were cost three points at Leicester for a harsh offside against Son, and were handed a lifeline against Sheffield last week in similar circumstances.

Unfortunately, for those in the stadium watching the games live, the information given regarding the VAR check is very minimal.

It basically exists of a message saying the action is being checked, followed by a final decision, with no information in between.

Sky Sports News have now reported that the Premier League are making changes starting in December that will provide more information on VAR checks in the stadium to fans.
