Report: Premier League boss emerges as leading candidate to replace Conte

Fulham boss Marco Silva has emerged as the leading candidate to become the next head coach of Tottenham Hotspur to replace Antonio Conte at the end of the season, according to The Sun.

Conte’s future at Tottenham has been under question and the Italian is set to meet with the Spurs board in April to discuss his future with both parties fully aware that his time at the club is coming to an end (The Athletic).

The 53-year-old’s contract in N17 expires at the end of the season and a mix of off-field and on-field factors are said to have played their part ahead of the talks taking place early next month.

Silva was appointed as Fulham manager in July 2021, having signed a three-year deal with the Cottagers and guided them to promotion last season and has all but secured their place in the top flight for another campaign having amassed an impressive 39 points.

The Portuguese is considered to be the first choice to fill the shoes of Conte, with chairman Daniel Levy likely to be impressed by how he has built a team at Fulham capable of competing without spending large amounts of money.

Many Tottenham fans are likely to be disappointed with this news should it come to fruition with many instead preferring one of Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Roberto Di Zerbi or Thomas Frank.

Silva has done well to help mend his reputation after a poor spell at Everton, but he does not carry the same level of appeal which would excite the fanbase as some other potential candidates.
