The Standard have revealed that Marc Guehi is expected to remain at Crystal Palace despite Tottenham’s interest in the centre-back.
It has been widely reported over the last couple of weeks that signing a centre-back is one of Ange Postecoglou’s priorities in January (90 min) and the injury to Micky van de Ven is thought to have only accelerated the club’s search for reinforcements in that area (Football Insider).
GiveMeSport reported on October 6 that Guehi is one of four defenders on Tottenham’s shortlist alongside Bournemouth’s Llyod Kelly, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura.
However, the outlet added that Spurs know Palace’s asking price for the England international would be ‘sky-high’.
Palace will not sell Marc Guehi to Spurs in January
The Standard have now become the latest publication to report on Tottenham’s interest in Guehi, stating that the Lilywhites are ‘long-term admirers’ of the Chelsea academy graduate.
However, they add that the Selhurst Park hierarchy are unlikely to sanction a sale of their star defender mid-season.
Spurs Web Opinion
I feel Spurs are more likely to pursue a big-name defender like Guehi or Edmond Tapsoba next summer rather than during January. The club are likely to go for a relatively cheap option in January to cover for Romero and Van de Ven.
Tottenham’s decision could also be influenced by how well Eric Dier plays over the next few months, with the 29-year-old set to get a sustained run in the side after Micky van de Ven’s injury.
