Report: Premier League club enter the race for Jan Vertonghen’s signature

Jan Vertonghen may have received an opportunity to continue his footballing career in England.

Italian news outlet Il Messaggero have claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers have registered their interest in the Belgian who is available on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old ended his eight-year association with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month following the conclusion of his contract and was reportedly not offered a new contract (AS).

Spurs pipped Wolves to finish in sixth place on the final day of the Premier League campaign on goal difference to secure Europa League qualification.

Vertonghen’s late header in injury time at Molineux to secure Spurs a win against Wolves in December proved to be a vital contribution.

The report claims that Vertonghen is only demanding £50,000-a-week in wages and has attracted interest from Italian giants Roma while Atletico Madrid are already said to have held talks with the former Ajax stopper.

Wolves are said to have identified Vertonghen to bolster their three-man central defence, with Vertonghen being something of a rarity as a natural left-footer.
