Report: Premier League club make desirable bid for Spurs-linked Zaniolo

CalcioMercato have revealed that Bournemouth have now presented a serious offer for Nicolo Zaniolo but the Roma star has turned down the chance to move to the Vitality Stadium.

Until a couple of days ago, reports had indicated that Tottenham were in advanced negotiations with Roma for Zaniolo, with the player alleged to be willing to join Antonio Conte’s side (90 min).

However, the situation changed within a blink of an eye on Tuesday night as Spurs stole Danjuma from under Everton’s noses (The Athletic) and announced the signing of the 25-year-old on loan the very next day.

There have since been some suggestions in the Italian press that Tottenham are still on Zaniolo’s trail (Gazzetta dello Sport 25/01/23 via Sport Witness) but the deal does appear unlikely after the North Londoners’ capture of the Dutchman.

CalcioMercato have now revealed that Bournemouth expressed a serious interest in the 23-year-old and offered Roma €30 (£26.3m) plus bonuses for the attacker as well as a 10 per cent sell-on clause on any future sale.

The report states that the Giallorossi wanted to ‘accept it in a hurry’ but Zaniolo turned down the move since he made it clear that he only wanted to join a ‘top’ club.

It is explained that AC Milan is the Italy international’s preferred destination despite the fact that he would stand to earn a lot more with the Cherries than he would at the San Siro.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is in Roma’s interest to sell Zaniolo this window, given his contract situation and I would not rule out the winger making a late move for Milan before the deadline. I suspect the Giallorossi will regret playing hardball with Spurs on the terms of the deal, which is seemingly why the North London club shifted their attention to Danjuma instead.
