Report: Premier League club make former Spurs man their number one target

Newcastle United’s prospective new owners have reportedly made Mauricio Pochettino their number one target to take over the reins following the completion of their takeover, according to Sky Sports.

The Sun now reports that Newcastle United’s £300 million takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund is expected to go through in the coming weeks after the fit and proper person test is complete.

It was previously reported that the former Spurs boss was on a four-person shortlist to replace Steve Bruce at the helm once the takeover was complete (Eurosport France journalist, Manu Lonjon).

Sky Sports have now revealed that Pochettino is the number one choice to be the next Magpies boss as the club’s prospective new owners were impressed with the rebuilding work he did Tottenham.

It is suggested that they are likely to allow Bruce to stay in charge until the end of the season and move for the Argentine before the start of the next campaign.

The report asserts that they are ready to offer the 48-year-old £10 million per year after tax, even more than Jose Mourinho earns at Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not surprised that Pochettino is their prefered choice to take over as the job that has to be done at Newcastle is very similar to the one the Argentine did at Spurs. The only difference is he will have much more money to spend in the North East. I am still not convinced that Pochettino will accept the offer as I feel he wants his next step to be managing an elite club like Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Paris Saint-Germain.
