Report: Premier League club now resigned to losing Spurs-linked midfielder

According to Roma Live, Aston Villa are resigned to losing rumoured Tottenham target Douglas Luiz in the summer.

Luiz was reportedly on Tottenham’s radar during the January transfer window, with The Daily Mail backing the North London club to make an offer for the Brazilian in the final few days of the month.

However, the midfielder ended up staying put at Villa Park, with Spurs snapping up Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on transfer deadline day instead.

The Athletic revealed on their live transfer blog on January 31st that the Villans rejected three offers in total for Luiz through the course of January, with the latest of those said to have arrived on deadline day.

Roma Live have now reported that the 23-year-old is one of the options on Roma’s radar ahead of the summer as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his midfield ranks.

The report adds that Steven Gerrard’s men expect to lose Luiz, whose contract expires in 2023 (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be surprised if Spurs decide to freshen up their midfield by moving on both Hojbjerg and Winks in the summer.

While Luiz has not exactly set the Premier League alight, he will be a tempting option for Spurs, given that he would only have 12 months left on his contract in the summer.

The Brazilian could thrive in Conte’s system and he still has age on his side to develop into a finished product.
